Mount Joy Lions Club Donates Funds
to Milanof-Schock Library for Video Magnifier The Milanof-Schock Library has acquired an Optelec ClearView 500 Video Magnifier to help the visually impaired read books, magazines, and newspapers. The magnifier is dedicated to the Mount Joy Lions Club, who generously donated $1800 for the purchase.
The ClearView 500 can magnify text to over 50 times, bringing life back into focus for those living with low vision, caused by such conditions as macular degeneration. The magnifier has a 17" high contrast CRT monitor that utilizes a “tilting screen” mechanism for maximum comfort and visibility, and it also features an oversized “Easy-Glide” moveable reading table and table mounted controls. In addition to helping the visually impaired read more easily, the magnifier can be used to view family photos and write letters.
The library is pleased to now offer this equipment to the community and invites all residents with low vision to try the new magnifier. For more information please call the library at 653-1510. The Milanof-Schock Library is located at 1184 Anderson Ferry Road, Mount Joy.
